Chapter 2: Parts of a Sentence
Parts of a Sentence introduces the basic elements that make up a complete sentence. It focuses on the subject and predicate and explains how each part functions to express a complete thought. The chapter also covers simple and complete subjects and predicates, compound subjects and predicates, and complements, helping students understand how different words and phrases work together to complete the meaning of a sentence and communicate ideas clearly and correctly.

Chapter 3:The Phrase
In this chapter, students will learn how to identify and understand phrases, groups of words that work together as a unit but do not contain both a subject and a verb. They will study different types of phrases, including prepositional, participial, gerund, infinitive, and appositive phrases, and learn how each functions within a sentence. Students will also learn to identify the grammatical role of a phrase, such as a noun, adjective, or adverb, and understand how phrases add detail and meaning to sentences.

Chapter 4: The Clause
In this chapter, students will learn how to identify and analyze clauses, examining the key differences between independent and dependent clauses. They will study the three functional types of dependent clauses—adverb, adjective, and noun clauses—and explore how each functions within a sentence. Additionally, students will learn to classify sentences based on their structure, exploring simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences. Through this study, students will learn how to properly connect and punctuate these clauses, avoid common structural errors like fragments and run-ons, and bring variety to their writing.

Chapter 5: Agreement
In this chapter, students will learn how to make subjects and verbs agree in number and how to make pronouns agree with their antecedents in number and gender. They will practice spotting the traps the SAT uses most often—prepositional phrases and interrupters between the subject and verb, indefinite pronouns, compound subjects, inverted sentences, collective nouns, expressions of amount, and words that look plural but are singular—so they can answer Standard English Conventions questions quickly and accurately.

Chapter 6: Using Pronouns Correctly
In this chapter, students will learn how to choose the correct form of a pronoun based on how it functions in a sentence. They will study the nominative, objective, and possessive cases; who and whom; pronouns used as appositives; reflexive and intensive pronouns; clear pronoun reference; whose versus who’s; and where, when, preposition + which, and whereby. Through this study, students will be able to spot and fix the pronoun errors that appear frequently in the Standard English Conventions questions on the Digital SAT.

Chapter 7: Using Verbs Correctly
In this chapter, students will learn the principal parts of regular and irregular verbs and how to use all twelve verb tenses—simple, perfect, progressive, and perfect progressive—correctly. They will practice keeping tenses consistent, using modals and would have versus will have, and telling the active voice from the passive voice. Through this study, students will be able to choose the verb form that fits the time and meaning of a sentence, a skill tested often in the Standard English Conventions questions on the Digital SAT.

Chapter 8: Using Modifiers Correctly
In this chapter, students will learn how adjectives, adverbs, phrases, and clauses work as modifiers and how to identify the word each one modifies. They will practice spotting and fixing dangling and misplaced modifiers—one of the most frequently tested errors on the Digital SAT—so that every modifier clearly and logically describes the word it is meant to describe.

Chapter 9: Punctuation
In this chapter, students will learn how to use end marks, commas, semicolons, colons, apostrophes, dashes, and parentheses correctly. They will practice the punctuation rules tested most often on the Digital SAT—joining and separating clauses, setting off nonessential elements and names, punctuating lists, introductory elements, and possessives—so they can choose the correctly punctuated option quickly and confidently.
